Because each slate is hand crafted irregularities must be expected on the surface & edges.
Walnut oil may has been applied to the items, this has best viscosity to bring out out the detail of the slate. If desired, good natural/olive oil may be rubbed on the surface of your slate in the future to bring back and enhance its natural contours.
Slate products should be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
