Overglaze figurines are decorated after the figurines has been glazed and fired. Since the pigments do not have to withstand the intense heat used to fire the glass-like glaze, much brighter colors can be used, much finer detail can be achieved. Royal Copenhagen is famous for its underglaze decorated figurines, which represent a major technical achievement and contribution to the potter's art, but it is with their overglaze techniques that they were able to create many of their most spectacular and beautiful figures.
