Toikka’s new red tern is a gorgeous bird made of scarlet transparent glass. It is the most vibrant bird in Toikka’s 2009 collection, which is otherwise more subdued. When illuminated by the surrounding light, it glows crimson, making it a great piece to display in a window. The bird’s head is made of clear glass, which gives the bird just the right amount of interest. It is a petite bird, but its bold color and robust body give it strength beyond its size.
Oiva Toikka’s imagination and iittala’s skilled Finnish glassblowers have created magical glass birds for over 30 years. Oiva is inspired by birds found all over the globe, but he makes each creation his own.
