The charming porcelain animals of Herend, revered for their elegant sculptural forms and wonderful fishnet pattern were first introduced in the 1870's. The fishnet design was first seen in 1874 when a Herend artist became intrigued with an old Chinese porcelain plate bearing a fish scale design. He incorporated it onto the breast of a rooster figurine in imitation of feathers, leaving the rest of the body in natural colorations. Since the 1960's Herend figurines have been painted in the fishnet design from head to toe. Luxurious 24 carat gold or platinum accents the figures.
